As the series shifted to Cleveland for game 3, most people were thinking that Stephen Curry the NBA MVP would get hot again and they’d win the game and retake the lead. Matthew Dellavedova would have none of that. Delly was everywhere, grabbing boards, scrambling for loose balls and on one play literally helped seal the 96-91 win.
LeBron James scored his normal 40 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and was 2 assists short of a triple double with 8 assists. James outplayed Curry and out coached Steve Kerr. Other than Dellavedova, JR Smith and Iman Shumpert were mostly ineffective (Shumpert was also injured during the game.) Tristan Thompson and Timofey Mozgov play great defense at big moments.
It’s noteworthy to mention that the Cavs are 4-0 without both Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love in the lineup. James also has the most points in the first 3 games of an NBA Finals. He has 123 surpassing Rick Barry (122) LA Lakers great, NBA logo Jerry West (118), Michael Jordan (117), and Shaquille O’ Neal (116).
As for the Warriors, they can take solace in Curry returning to form scoring 24 of his 27 points in the second half (17 in the fourth), but he’s also killing them with stupid and costly turnovers; he had 6 tonight. Again, where was Andre Iguodala and Klay Thompson? David Lee showed up and played great in the fourth quarter where the Warriors cut a 20 point lead to 1. Draymond Green, Harrison Barnes, and Andrew Bogut gave almost zero effort.
When a series is tied 1-1 in the Finals, the team that wins game 3 has won the series 86% of the time. They’re partying tonight on 4th St. in downtown Cleveland. I would caution the city to NOT get too ahead of themselves. You remember “The Drive” don’t you.
