NBA Finals 2015 Starts Tonight

The NBA Finals will take a backseat to the Stanley Cup Finals only in the Canada and promises to be just as thrilling as the chase for Lord Stanley’s Cup. Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors will try to send LeBron James home with his 4th loss in NBA Finals appearances. Golden State has been the best team all year and has Steph Curry as the league MVP. This is LeBron’s first season back in Cleveland and his second attempt to bring a title to poor down trodden Cleveland. I hate to do this to Cleveland, but not this year either; sadly your wait will continue. The West was a beast this year and the Warriors owned the West. Cleveland wasn’t the best team in the East and Atlanta wasn’t at full strength, LeBron has NOT played well, and Cleveland is not the superior team.

LeBron James is still the best basketball player in the world. He still has not proven that he has the killer instinct like a Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant. He’s still too motivated by what others think about him. Jordan stated again that he would take Kobe Bryant over LeBron if he were drafting the two. LeBron’s response? “Growing up I wanted to be like AI (Allen Iverson), not Jordan.” Funny when Cleveland turned on him he said, “I am from Akron, we never liked Cleveland.” If his idol was Iverson, why did he always wear 23 (except for the 6 in Miami) and is wearing that 23 now? I guess even at 30, he wants Jordan’s approval and all that growing he claimed he did in Miami was a joke just like his coming “home” letter was as well.

j_r_-smith-iman-shumpert-lebron-james-nba-playoffs-cleveland-cavaliers-atlanta-hawks-850x560I’m picking the Warriors because Kyrie Irving CANNOT guard Stephen Curry and LeBron can’t guard Curry and Thompson (“The Splash Brothers”). This means one of them will be open and that is a huge problem for the Cavs. The Cavaliers aren’t known for defense, and even “King” James’ defensive numbers have fallen this season.
This finals is also about the changing of the guard. James is 30 and those legs are now 13 years older. We are closer to the end than we are the beginning of James’ reign. The same cannot be said for Curry who just may be the purest shooter the league has ever had. He Has NO Range. Although, Steve Kerr is a rookie head coach, he is still better than David Blatt. Had officials done their job, the Cavaliers would’ve lost to Chicago, The Cavs won despite who their head coach is. Steve Kerr won rings with the great Michael Jordan. So on paper you take the Warriors, but this is the NBA where ANYTHING can happen, and usually does.
Curry and Kerr
The Cavaliers have one advantage– LeBron James, but Bron has not played like he’s the best player in the world and the Warriors, including the rising Curry has. In order to bring a title to Cleveland, Irving has to at least irritate Curry and Shumpert must play better than Bogut. There really isn’t more to it than that. The Warriors score AND play defense. LeBron James can go for 40+ but if the Warriors defense keeps everybody else in check, it won’t matter.
By month’s end, the spring will end and both the NHL and NBA will have crowned its champs and baseball will reign all alone until NFL training camps start. In some cities (those whose teams are out), pre-season games will trump pennant races. To all cities involved good luck and I of course will be pulling for my picks as I have yet to be wrong….
(For The Record, Blackhawks in the NHL and Warriors in the NBA)
